Four amateurs from the GB & Ireland Curtis Cup winning team are also taking part as the competitors chase a spot in the third ladies major of the year, to be played at Woburn at the end of July.

Two English golfers, Rebecca McGinley and Emma Goddard, were joint winners of the pre-qualifying competition at The Berkshire Golf Club after both shot a round of two-under-par 70.

With 25 others adding their names to a Final Qualifying field of just under 100 golfers from all over the world, home professional Lee Scarbrow believe the ladies will enjoy the challenge of competing on the Bedfordshire course.

He said: “They will expect a course in fantastic condition. Obviously we have had a little bit of rain this year. But that means the course is now lush and perfectly prepared. So they are going to find a tough golf course, but a fair golf course.

“As soon as the club were told about the Ricoh Women’s British Open Final Qualifying, we have been very excited about it, because we know that we have a great golf course here for the girls to play on – it will be really exciting to see how they handle it.”
