Prince’s unveils new short-game area

Prince’s Golf Club in Kent has opened a brand new short-game practice area as part of it on-going investment in upgrading the facilities at the historic Sandwich-based venue.

The club’s owners have invested over £50,000 to create a larger practice putting green, and two further practice greens with surrounding pot bunkers for pitching and chipping.

The project has taken just under 12 months to complete, with the new facilities first put into play by competitors taking part in final qualifying for the Open Championship held at Prince’s in July.

Rob McGuirk, Prince’s general manager, said: “This is a very exciting development which adds to our existing excellent practice facilities, and will improve the experience for our members and visitors. We used half of the old chipping green for the new par-three fifth hole on the Himalayas Course, which opened up space for us to create two new practice pot bunkers and additional run-off areas. Our plan is to continue adding to the area with another green which allows for longer pitch shots.”

The club opened the re-designed nine holes on the Himalaya’s course earlier in the year, and is planning to carry out works to the Shore and Dunes loops as part of an ambitious phase of redevelopment.
