competition hots up in the race to dubai

With three majors gone, and the European Tour’s season well into its second half, the competition is seriously hotting up to see who will win this season’s Race to Dubai. Taking in 47 tournaments, the winner is the player who has the most points after the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in November.

Here, we take a look at the golfers who are leading the way for the Race to Dubai, with just four months left in the season.

Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood has had a breakthrough year so far, with victories coming in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Gold Championship and the HNA Open de France. The man from Southport will also be delighted with his fourth-place finish in the US Open, where he was in contention on the final day of the event, which was ultimately won by Brooks Koepka.

Following his win in Paris, Fleetwood is now the odds-on favourite at 1/2 to win the Race to Dubai in 2017. He was one of the golf betting tips by the bookies offers for the Irish Open where he notched up another top-20 finish. He was also popular in the Open Championship where he went off at 25/1 for Royal Birkdale.

Fleetwood’s form over the last few months means he is one of the fancied runners in the betting in every event he takes parts in at the moment. In the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in August, he is available at 25/1. A victory in one of the four Major Championships would ensure his world rankings would take a huge boost and at the same time, he would help cement his place at the top of the Race to Dubai standings.

The 26-year-old should be a part of the European Ryder Cup team next year, where Europe are the odds-on favourites at 10/11 to win back the trophy. Fleetwood will be a rookie at the event, although he has represented Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup as an amateur so he does have some experience of a team competition.

Sergio Garcia
Spaniard Sergio Garcia finally ended his wait for a Major Championship earlier this year when he won the Green Jacket at the US Masters at Augusta. Garcia had to beat Justin Rose in a play-off in Georgia where he held his nerve to land one of the biggest prizes in golf.

Garcia could still do more damage in the closing months of the season now that he does not have the burden of failing to win a Major on his back. The European is driving the ball as well as anyone on the tour and has full confidence in his game. He is currently second in the rankings at the time of writing and is available at 7/1 to win the Race to Dubai.

Jon Rahm

Garcia’s fellow Spanish compatriot Jon Rahm won his first event on the European Tour earlier this month when successful in the Irish Open. Rahm spends most of his time on the PGA Tour and has been tipped to be a multiple Major winner. Hopefully, we will see a bit more of him in Europe following his success in Ireland. The 22-year-old is 7/2 top the Race to Dubai Standings after the Tour Championship.
