PGA Tour will not ban players who enter LIV Golf qualifying tournament

The PGA Tour has said that it will not punish or fine any PGA Tour members who choose to compete in the upcoming LIV Golf Promotions event in Abu Dhabi.

The three-day, 72-hole event, which is being held at Abu Dhabi Golf Club from December 7-10, has a prize fund of $1.5m and offers places on next year’s LIV Golf schedule to the top three finishers.

The PGA Tour said that is did not consider LIV Golf Promotions to be an unauthorized tournament which would require the Tour to ban all players from participating in future PGA Tour events.

“Based on the information publicly available regarding the LIV Golf Promotion event; it is determined to be a qualifying event only and not a part of an unauthorized series,” a PGA Tour spokesman said. “Therefore, the LIV Golf Promotion event is not categorized as an ‘unauthorized tournament.’ This classification is subject to change should the details of the event change.”

The DP World Tour has made no announcement as to how it will respond to members that participate in the LIV Golf Promotions event. It previously handed out €100,000 fines to those players who competed in LIV Golf events that clashed with a DP World Tour event. The tour is staging the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa from December 7-10, which directly clashes with the LIV Golf qualifier in Abu Dhabi.
