How Is Ireland Preparing For The 2027 Ryder Cup At Adare Manor

While the Ryder Cup will not be coming to Adare Manor until 2027, there is still plenty to do in order to prepare for it. What is Ireland doing to fully prepare for the Cup, and ensure that the experience is smooth and successful for everybody involved? Let’s take a look to see what is happening right now.

The Ryder Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition, between teams from Europe and the United States. Every 2 years, the event is held in a venue alternating between the US and Europe. In 2027, the Ryder Cup will be happening at Adare Manor in Co. Limerick.

The event itself is named after English businessman Samuel Ryder, who first donated the trophy.

In the beginning of the events, it was contested between Great Britain and the US. After the second world war, and the event could resume, it was decided to include continental Europe with the UK and Ireland as one team.

Currently, Europe has run the 12 times outright, while the United States has won 9 times.

The Ryder Cup was held in odd numbers years up until 1999. However, after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, the event was moved to even years in 2002. It was actually back again to odd years in 2021, due to the cancellation of the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

58m EUR To Be Spent On Developments For Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup event in 2027 will be the first time it comes back to Ireland in 21 years. Because of this, Ireland is pulling out all of the stocks to ensure it is an event to remember. That is why the government has already committed 58m EUR towards putting the event on.

The funds for this will be split across several different things, with the bulk of it going towards licence fee. This will cost 22.5m EUR altogether, but will be split into installments. The first installment of 3.2m EUR was paid in 2020, and the second of 2.755m EUR was paid in 2021.

There is also an 8m EUR marketing budget, which is used to promote both Adare Manor and the Ryder Cup 2027 tickets. This will be done throughout the European Tour.

The rest of the budget will be used on lots of different upgrades for infrastructure around Adare Manor. Ireland will also see many spent on the logistics, security, and other costs that come with putting on such a huge event.

Bookmakers Are Already Preparing Odds For The Ryder Cup

Betting is a serious business in Ireland, and with the Ryder Cup on the way, bookmakers are paying a close attention to the golfers who will be involved. While of course according to betting sites like Scs.ie, they can’t give accurate odds right now on the events, they are paying attention to who may be on their way to playing in the event. That will allow them to offer more accurate and good value odds to anyone wanting to bet on it in 2027.

These are just some of the things that Ireland are doing to prepare for the Ryder Cup in 2027. Even though it is seemingly far away, there is still plenty to be done in the meantime.

Approval Of Adare Bypass

One of the most important things that is being done right now to prepare for the Ryder Cup, is the plan to accelerate the construction of the Adare Bypass. The bypass is actually one part of the full Limerick to Foynes project, which will be a 33 km road which connects Limerick to the port of Foynes.

This has been a positive move for the area, as gridlock is often an issue around Adare. Many are calling this a benefit for the whole area at large, as it will allow for less congestion and enable residence to get around much more easily.

With the upcoming Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, it became apparent that the project would need to be accelerated. The event will bring a much larger amount of traffic through the area, and the current infrastructure would not be able to handle it. With the construction of the bypass, the hope is that even with increased traffic, congestion will be eased significantly.

A Cash Injection For Shannon Airport

On the subject of travel, Shannon Airport has also been bolstered in preparation for the Ryder Cup. The Irish government is providing 11.6 million EUR in funding, to allow the airport to be developed and handle the increased traffic that will come from the event.

The cash injection also comes as there are going to be many economic opportunities coming from this event. The government has recognized that there will be a large amount of tourists coming to the area, especially from the US. Because of this, they want them to have the best possible experience in the airport as they touch down on Irish soil.

Preparing For Tourism In Limerick

As mentioned above, the arrival of the Ryder Cup in Limerick will increase tourism their significantly during the event. Because of this, hotels and tourist attractions in the area will be gearing up for the additional traffic that they will see.

This is especially true for Adare Manor, the location of the Ryder Cup 2027. This five star luxury hotel will see a huge increase in bookings around the event, and so will need to prepare and have additional staff and budget available to cater to their guests needs.
