Entries are being invited for the 28th renewal of the Laddie Lucas Spoon, which is being held at Prince’s Golf Club in Kent on March 30.
The tournament is a scratch competition open to juniors aged between eight and 13 years old, which is sponsored by The Golfing Society of Great Britain. It is held in honour of the late ‘Laddie’ Lucas, who was co-founder of the Sandwich-based club.
No handicaps are required, but there are various handicap competitions and prizes awarded for age categories.
The scratch winner will be presented with the hickory-shafted Spoon, which is held permanently on display in the clubhouse. The Spoon was the first prize Lucas ever won in a competition. He won it, aged five years and 11 months, in a Junior Open Event for U13s at North Foreland where the professional, Abe Mitchell, had it specially made for him by his clubmaker.
Last year’s winner was Oliver Rust from Gog Magog Golf Club in Bedfordshire with a score of 34 points.
The cost to enter the Laddie Lucas Spoon, which includes a light lunch, is £15. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.princesgolfclub.co.uk or by emailing [email protected].
