Surrey’s Sammy Fuller won’t have far to travel when she makes her debut in the Ladies’ Home Internationals next month.
The sixteen year old is a member at Roehampton, so will only have to make the short hop on the 493 bus – or more likely the five-mile journey via the A3 – to get to Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, venue for this year’s matches.
Fuller has made the leap from the Girls’ International level after winning seven out of her eight matches for England in the European team championship and helping England secure its eighth consecutive Girls’ Home Internationals. She also tied for the Irish U18 stroke play, but lost a title play-off, and was tied 12th in the British stroke play.
Fuller is one of five new caps have been selected for the England team to defend the Ladies’ Home International title from September 9-11. She is joined by fellow Surrey and England Girl international Inci Mehmet, Sammie Giles (Cornwall), Sophie Keech (Dorset), and Sophie Lamb (Lancashire). They will join established internationals Gemma Clews, Hollie Muse and Bethan Popel, who all played a part in last year’s victory.
Eighteen year old Mehmet, from Royal Mid-Surrey, helped England win the team trophy at the British stroke play, where she tied 16th, and has had had top ten finishes in the English, Irish and Scottish women’s stroke play championships.
