Texan Andrew Landry made his first PGA Tour victory a home state affair when he secured a two-stroke win at the Texas Open in San Antonio.
Landry, who lives in nearby Austin, shot a four-under 68 to secure his first PGA Tour victory in his 32nd start. Starting the day tied for the lead with fellow American Zach Johnson, Landy birdied the first three holes before parring the final seven to finish with a 17-under total of 271 at TPC San Antonio.
Trey Mullinax and Sean O’Hair tied for second on 15 under, while Chilean teenager Joaquin Niemann, the world’s number one amateur before turning professional two weeks ago, finished sixth, five strokes behind Landry.
“Today was a grind, especially on the back nine, but I’ll take it,” said a relieved Landry, who lost a playoff against Jon Rahm at the CareerBuilder Challenge in California three months ago.
