Bramshaw Golf Club’s junior team has been crowned England’s Home Nations Inter-Club champions for the second time in three years after winning the final held at Mannings Heath Golf Club in West Sussex.
After winning the Hampshire Junior League to qualify for the knockout rounds, the Bramshaw team played in regional semi-final and final tournaments to earn a place in the England National Final, where they took on junior teams representing Thirsk & North Allerton, Hexham, Huddersfield, Windlesham and Wrag Barn.
With the recent heavy rain leaving Mannings Heath’s Waterfall Course playing its full length, the soft conditions made scoring tough for England’s top junior teams, while falling leaves also made life challenging for players and ball-spotters alike.
Bramshaw’s captain Joe Buenfeld’s 1-under par 71 – the equal best score of the day – was backed up by his team-mates Elliot Thomas, Ciaran Simpkin, Ryan Archer, Danny Coombs and Jake Barney, Billy Lightfoot, who all scored around their handicaps to take the title by four shots from Windlesham.
They now head off to Morgado, Portugal in February 2020, to represent England in the Home Nations Championships.
Nev James, Junior Organiser at Bramshaw, said: “This squad have now been together for a few years and they are impressive young golfers. I am very proud of the way they played, their etiquette and their ability to cope in pressure situations. Every player gave a very solid golf performance and they are a genuine team, working with and supporting each other superbly.”
