Jack Nicklaus
Nicklaus is undoubtedly the most successful golfer in Masters Tournament history. He holds the record for most wins with six victories, more than any other player in the tournament’s 89-year history.
In addition to his six Masters wins, Nicklaus also finished runner-up four times and placed in the top 5 fifteen times and the top 10 twenty-two times – awe-inspiring accomplishments! Even more astonishingly, he made an impressive 37 cuts at Augusta throughout his career, including one more run in 1998 at the age of 58, finishing sixth and defeating the incumbent winner, 22-year-old Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods is also a name synonymous with success at the Masters. He holds the record for the youngest tournament winner, winning his first championship in 1997 at just 21 years old. Since then, he has won four more championships and placed runner-up two times. He has also finished in the top 5 a total of ten times and in the top 10 a total of twelve times. His performance has been so impressive that he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last year.
Arnold Palmer
Arnold Palmer was the first golf legend to make his mark at Augusta. Between 1957 and 1967, he won four times and finished in the top 10 every year, with two runner-ups and nine top 5 finishes. He is also known for his iconic “Arnie’s Army,” following that supported him wherever he went. Sadly, he passed away in 2016, but his memory lives on at Augusta National through a bronze statue erected in his honor outside the clubhouse.
Phil Mickelson
One of golf’s all-time greats, Mickel, has achieved many successes at the Masters Tournament. He holds three green jackets, having won in 2004, 2006, and 2010 – making him only the fourth player in history to do so. He has also finished runner-up once and placed in the top 5 eleven times and the top 10 fifteen times – impressive records demonstrating his consistency at Augusta National. His popularity has earned him roles as an ambassador for the PGA Tour, helping to cement his legacy as one of golf’s greatest players.
Gary Player
Another golfing icon whose mastery of Augusta National has earned him a place in Masters Tournament history. A South African native, he holds the third-most wins at the Masters with three championships – 1961, 1974, and 1978 – making him one of only eight players to have won multiple green jackets. He also finished runner-up twice and placed in the top 5 eight times and the top 10 fifteen times.
Throughout his illustrious career, Gary Player was known for his hard work ethic and dedication to improvement, which resulted in some strong showings at Augusta National. He was famous for his intense physical fitness regimen, which included running five miles a day, weightlifting, and regular practice sessions with his team of instructors.
Gary Player’s legacy continues today through The Player Foundation, a non-profit organization he founded that provides education, health care, housing, and other necessary resources to disadvantaged children worldwide.
