Ryder Cup 2023 – Format

Players compete in as individuals or pairs in the Ryder Cup, with the player or pair with the lowest score winning each hole.

The winning player or pair is awarded a point for their team when the advantage is bigger than the number of holes remaining. If a match finishes level, the point is halved.

Captains can pick different pairings for the fourballs and foursomes, which allows them to team up players who gel well together or are in good form.

Sunday’s singles matches feature 12 head-to-heads involving all 24 players. One point is awarded to a team for a singles win, and a half if a match is drawn. The schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, September 29: Morning – Four fourballs matches; Afternoon – four foursomes matches.
  • Saturday September 30: Morning: Four fourballs matches; Afternoon – four foursomes matches.
  • Sunday October 1: 12 singles matches.
