Mark Stockade win the England U25 Amateur Championship trophy

Stockdale secures England U25 title after final round fireworks

Woburn’s Mark Stockdale made the most of home advantage to win the England Men’s Amateur U25 Championship after finishing on eight under after 54 holes at the Bedfordshire club.

Stockdale shot rounds of 68, 69 and 71 to win by three shots from Yorkshire’s Max Berrisford.

Stockdale was joint leader alongside Oliver Cage (Moortown) after day two, but the pair didn’t have the front nine they had hoped for as the lead changed hands multiple times throughout a frantic final day.

Craig Passmore (Torquay), who went into the final round just three shots back following a stunning second round that included eight birdies, had a whirlwind start with three more birdies after five holes as he shot to the top of the leaderboard. However, his charge fell away from the eighth hole onwards.

Stockdale battled back from a torrid start to his final round, which included four bogeys on the front nine, to turn things around in dramatic style on the back nine, recoding four birdies and eagle on a stunning run of holes that featured six consecutive threes from the 12th. That saw the Woburn man come home in 31 shots to ease to a three-shot win.

Hamish Hall (Studley Wood) produced a final round 69 to leapfrog up the leaderboard into third, while Joe Buenfeld (Bramshaw) finished fourth after a level-par 72.
