Steve Stricker captured his second senior major of the year when winning the US Senior Open by six shots.
The 52 year old, who still regularly competes on the PGA Tour, made his US Senior Open debut one for the record books, as he finished on 19 under par on the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame, breaking the US Senior Open scoring record set two years ago by Kenny Perry by three shots.
Stricker, who also won the Regions Tradition in May by the same winning margin, shot rounds of 62, 64, 66 and 69 to finish well clear of runners-up Jerry Kelly and defending champion David Toms.
In addition to the $720,000 first prize, Stricker earned an invitiation to play in next year’s US Open at Winged Foot, where he finished 10th in 2006.
The highest-placed European was Miguel Angel Jimenez, who finished tied sixth on five under, while England’s Paul Broadhurst finished a shot back in tied 11th.
