Stenson’s the hero in the Bahamas

Henrik Stenson won his first title in more than two years at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.

The 43-year-old Swede found a timely eagle on the 15th en route shoot a final-round 66 to finish on 18 under, one shot ahead of defending champion Jon Rahm.

Patrick Reed edged US compatriot and tournament host Tiger Woods by two shots, while Justin Rose finished joint fifth.

Stenson, who had not won a PGA Tour event since capturing the Wyndham Championship in 2017, said: “I found good momentum and sometimes it’s just keep on working hard and grinding it out. Obviously the shot of the day was that five-wood to a couple of inches on 15, so I was very pleased about that.”

Rahm secured second place with an impressive effort down the back nine, hitting birdies at 14 and 16, and an eagle on 15. Third round leader Gary Woodland slipped to joint seventh following a disappointing 73 in his final round.

Tournament host Woods closed out with a 69, but Reed finished above him on 16 under, despite being hit with a two-shot penalty after being caught flattening sand behind his ball with two practice swings in the bunker during in the third round.
