There were six regional Open Championship qualifying tournaments held in the South East on June 26, with seven others being held at other venues throughout the UK.
Those who qualified will now progress to final qualifying on July 4, which takes place at Gailes, Hollinwell, Hillside, Woburn and Royal Cinque Ports.
Oxfordshire amateur Oliver Huggins was among the seven qualifiers through to final qualifying after shooting a one-under-par 71 at his home course, Frilford Heath. Also scoring one under was Henley’s Narendra Yonjan, while four players shared top spot on two under, including former European Tour player Van Phillips (Stoke Park) and Ricky Brckenbury (Orsett).
Dartford’s Michael Saunders topped the leaderboard at the Wildernesse, qualifier, shooting a four-under-par 68 to win by one shot from a quartet of players that included three professionals – Michael Lowe, Craig Sutherland, Tom Muchmore – and amateur Jack Dyer (Rochford Hundred). The remaining three places went to Chris Croucher (Singing Hills), Dan Brown (Littlestone) and Paul Nessling (Cooden Beach).
There were just five qualifiers at Luffenham Heath, with tour pro Tom Whitehouse taking the top spot with a three-under-par 67, one shot ahead of amateur Michael Pask (Royal Wimbledon). Jack Gaunt (Drayton Park), Kevin Crossland and Neil Chaudhuri (The Leicestershire) took the remaining qualifying spots with 69s.
Eight players were successful at Sandy Lodge, with Milbrook amateur Jack Hawksby leading the qualifiers with a three-under-par 67, which saw him finish one shot ahead of Rob Watson (The Shire), Luke Goddard (Hendon), James Ruebotham (Welwyn) and Raymond Russell (Centurion). The remaining three spots went to Harry Casey (Enfield), Eillot Crue (Sandy Lodge) and Rob Sutton (Duntable Downs), who all shot 69s.
Over at Remedy Oak in Dorset, South Africa’s Martin Rohwer finished on top with a five-under-par 67, narrowly beating Josh Hilleard (Farrington Park), with Sean Whiffin (Hertfordshire) and Sam Boyes (Corhampton) tied in third on two under. Matt Mumford (Wrag Barn), amateurs Noah Hessey (Long Ashton) and Jamie Clare (Long Sutton) were the final qualifiers, along with Haydn Reay (Army).
The best round of the day came at Burhill, where Chart Hills’ Connor Fletcher topped the scoring with a six under par 66 saw him finish two shots ahead of Max Brackley (Manston) to book his place at final qualifying. Woking amateur Peter Jackon took third with a 69, while the remaining four places went to Abs Mawji, Richard Wallis (Canterbury), Xabier Gorospe (Spain), Chris Rodgers (Richings Park) and Jacob Oakley (Styal).
Prince’s Golf Club’s Francis McGuirk made the long trip to West Lancs to take part in his qualifier, and the 400-mile journey paid off when he finished tied second on one under.
