LINKSNET EAST MIDLANDS SWING REPORT

A good number of members took advantage of the two days in the East Midlands recently and they were rewarded with two excellent courses and some good weather!

First up was the stunning Coxmoor Golf Club, one of three fantastic courses within a very short distance – Hollinwell having hosted a day earlier in the season and Sherwood Forest a day last summer. Coxmoor did not disappoint with its fantastic layout in great condition and a fabulous new clubhouse providing stunning views across the course. The superb hospitality on offer also complimented the excellent facilities.

There was some excellent golf on show with Nearest the Pin in Two going to Terry Woods and Nearest the Pin to Neil McRae. Both won Titleist caps with Terry also winning a bottle of Hayman’s gin and Neil a bottle of Merser Rum.

The Team Stableford winners were Paul Rayner, Carl Greenwood, Dave Woods and Forbes Cutler who scored an excellent 90 points to win a dozen Titleist Pro V1s/V1Xs each.

In the Individual Stableford, there were some great scores with three players scoring over 40 points. Third place went to Forbes Cutler with an excellent 41 points who won a Skechers GO Golf shoes voucher. The runner up was Dave Woods who shot a superb 42 points to win a fourball voucher for a return trip to Coxmoor, but it was Neil McRae, who superbly birdied the final hole with his second ball after losing his tee shot, to take first place on a countback after also scoring a fantastic 42 points. Neil won a £250 Stewart Golf voucher.

The tour then moved 30 minutes north for the second day at Lee Westwood’s club Worksop – home to this year’s England Amateur Championship. A very different course to Coxmoor but an excellent one none the less and presented in great condition. Scoring proved a little tougher on the second day with tight fairways and windy conditions.

Nearest the Pin in Two winning a Titleist cap and a bottle of Merser Rum was Duncan Whitehead, whilst Terry Woods out in the first group had the stress of watching groups hit to the 18th green trying to beat his Nearest the Pin effort! Although Louise O’Keeffe in the last group almost did it, Terry hung on to win another bottle of Hayman’s gin and Titleist cap.

In the team competition, the winners were Dave Cooksley, Carl Greenwood, Duncan Whitehead and Dave Woods with 86 points winning a dozen Titleist balls each.

The Individual Stableford saw Duncan Whitehead take third place with 35 points on a countback winning a pair of Skechers shoes. Dave Woods took second place again this time with 38 points winning a fourball back at Worksop. The clear winner however was Carl Greenwood with an excellent 41 points winning a £250 Stewart Golf voucher.
