England amateur international Lily May Humphreys teamed up with Orsett professional Will Percival to win the 86th Sunningdale Foursomes.
The Essex pair beat former US Senior Open champion Roger Chapman and his amateur partner Ben Holden by one hole to take the title. Having been comfortable ahead at one point, Chapman (who won the title in 1979) and Holden fought back to take the match down the Old course’s 18th hole before Humphreys and Percival prevailed.
The winners became the fifth mixed team to the title in the past nine years, and succeeded Swedish amateur internationals Linn Grant and Maja Stark as champions.
Humphreys and Percival secured their place in the final after beating Sean Towndrow (Southport & Ainsdale) and Peter Tarver-Jones (Worthing) 2&1 in their semi, while Chapman and Holden defeated Andrew George and Emily Slater 5&4 to seal their place.
Earlier in the week, pre-tournament favourites Charley Hull and Ryan Evans lost by one hole to Towndrow and Tarver-Jones in the third round, with the latter pair also taking down Sandy Lyle and his amateur partner James Bunch in the second round, 5&4.
The Goodwood pairing of Marco Penge and Sophie Lamb, winners in 2016, saw their hopes of bagging a second Sunningdale Foursomes title disappeared with a 2&1 defeat in the fourth round to European Tour player Tom Murray and England international Gemma Clews.
