Dorset’s Georgia Hall enjoyed a double celebration at the weekend after collecting both the Ladies European Tour’s Order of Merit and Players’ Player of the Year Award following the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic.
The 21-year-old from Bournemouth, who finished 21st in Dubai, wrapped up the Order of Merit with earnings of €368,934.60 from 10 tournaments, and was further rewarded for her efforts when she was presented with a diamond encrusted Omega watch and a cheque for €20,000 at the post-tournament awards ceremony.
Hall recorded seven top-10s on the LET in 2017, two of those in major championships. Her season started strongly with a tie for third in the World Ladies Championship in China, and she then tied for fourth in the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco. She posted a tie for ninth in the Scottish Open and then shared third place in the British Open at Kingsbarns.
Her debut as a rookie in the Solheim Cup saw her breakthrough on the global stage, where she played in all five matches at Des Moines Country Club in Iowa, winning two points in Europe’s 16.5-11.5 defeat against the US.
She then tied for 10th place in the Evian Championship in France, before posting a fourth-place finish in the Andalucia Costa del Sol Open and second in the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi.
Reflecting on the season, she said: “Winning the order of merit is up there as the biggest achievement of my career. It was one of my targets at the start of this year, and I’m over the moon to have done it. I’ve played very consistently all year. The Solheim Cup was huge for me, and to finish third at the British Open was also a big moment.
“Experience has been so important for me, and mentally I have improved more than anything, which has led to the results of this year. I know myself better now, and I know my game a lot more, too.”
