Campillo claims Kenya Open

Jorge Campillo claimed his third DP World Tour title with a two-shot victory at the Kenya Open held at Muthaiga Golf Club.

The 36-year-old Spaniard was seeking his first victory since the 2020 Qatar Masters, almost three years ago to the day, but showed no sign of nerves as he carded four birdies on the front nine. In spite of a bogey on the par-three 11th, cancelling out his fifth birdie of the day on the 10th, Campillo held a three-stroke lead on the 18th tee. He finished with a par to sign for a closing 66 and an 18-under total, two strokes clear of Masahiro Kawamura, with Santiago Tarrio and Ryo Hisatsune sharing third on 15 under.

Campillo said:I played great all day, beside that little short putt I missed on 11. I knew I had to play good golf to win the tournament and I’m glad I managed to do that. It’s nice to win three tournaments. I remember coming here on the Challenge Tour in 2011, but I never dreamed I would come back here 12 years later and win my third tournament on the DP World Tour. It’s always nice to win a golf tournament, but if you have trophy that also has Seve’s on it, it’s more special for us Spaniards.”
