Woburn Golf Club is to host the 2019 Women’s British Open, when England’s Georgia Hall will be the defending champion.
Woburn has hosted the Championship on ten occasions, the first nine of which were on the Duke’s Course, while the 2016 Ricoh Women’s British Open was played on the Marquess Course to great acclaim from the 144-strong field of world class players.
Forming part of the Woburn Estate, home to the Duke of Bedford, Woburn boasts three championship courses and has held many European Tour and Senior Tour events, as well as Final Qualifying for the Open Championship.
Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn was delighted to hear that the Championship is returning to the scene of her first Major triumph commenting: “I am so happy to hear that we will be back playing on the Marquess Course at Woburn. I know everyone always says they like the courses where they have won before but I think I actually won because I loved everything about my week in Woburn so much! The crowds were amazing, the facilities were perfect, the course totally suited my game and, of course there is lots of lovely places around Woburn to visit. I cannot wait to see everyone there in 2019.”
The Duke of Bedford commented: “We are delighted to be welcoming the Women’s British Open back to Woburn in 2019. Hosting our first Major in 2016 was a real privilege and it was an experience all of our members enjoyed very much. Ariya was a truly wonderful champion and I was in awe as to how well she handled the challenges of the Marquess. We look forward to seeing if she can manage a repeat performance next year against what will be another world-class field of international stars.”
