The International Course at the London Golf Club is to stage next year's Staysure PGA Senior Championship

STARS ON SHOW AT PGA SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP AT LONDON GOLF CLUB

Some of the biggest names in the senior game will be on show at London Golf Club in Kent this week, when the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship returns to the schedule after a three-year absence.

Among the headline acts on display at the Brands hatch-based venue from August 2-5 will be three-time senior major champion Colin Montgomerie, dual senior major winner Paul Broadhurst, past PGA Senior Championship winner Sam Torrance, and the latest recruit to the over-50s circuit, former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.

The field of 90 players, which will also include a number of club PGA professionals, will compete for the £400,000 prize fund, with the winner taking home a cheque for £60,000. Australian Peter Fowler, who won the tournament in 2015 at Close House, will effectively be the defending champion, and he will have a chance to become the eighth to win back-to-back PGA Seniors titles, a feat accomplished most recently by Paul Wesselingh, when he defended his 2012 triumph.

They will all feature in the inaugural edition of the PGA Seniors Championship under the new title sponsorship of insurance company Staysure, which also became the headline sponsors of the European Senior Tour at the start of the season.

Colin Montgomerie, who will be making his debut in the PGA Seniors Championship, said: “I am thoroughly looking forward to playing in the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, especially as I will be making my debut at the event. I only managed to play once on European soil last season, so to get the chance to compete several times in the UK and Europe is exciting. There has already been a lot of hard work put in by the terrific team at London Golf Club for what will be a superb event, and I am very much looking forward to the challenge of the course and the competition.”

The 2018 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship takes place at the London Golf Club from August 2-5. Entry to the tournament is free of charge, with a £10 daily car parking charge in aid of charity.
