Farrelly wins Senior Italian Open at San Domenico

Craig Farrelly claimed his maiden Staysure Legends Tour title in commanding fashion, carding a final round 7-under-par 65 to secure a five-shot victory at the Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open at San Domenico Golf in Puglia, Italy.

The 54-year-old Englishman, who entered the final round with a two-shot lead, finished at 23-under-par following rounds of 64, 64 and 65, securing a breakthrough victory that also guarantees his full playing rights for the remainder of the 2026 season and throughout 2027.

“Winning is always nice, but getting my card is massive,” said Farrelly. “I put down a few notes on what I wanted to achieve recently, and one of the things was to make sure that you’re not on the borderline.

“Even this year, I’ve always been looking to see if I’m in, whether I can book something or not. It’s nice to know that’s sorted and I can relax.”

He added: “It’s so nice to do it in a place like this. At the beginning of the week, we had the thunderstorms and the torrential rain, but after that it’s been brilliant. It’s nice to get it over the line.”

Caddie comes to the fore

The Englishman was quick to acknowledge the contribution of his friend and caddie Jamie, whose support proved invaluable throughout the week.

“People say this is an individual sport, but when you’ve got someone like that on the bag who you can trust, he won’t shy away from the big moments. He’ll just tell me how it is, which is really appreciated. It’s definitely a team event.”

New Zealand’s Mark Brown surged into a share of second place with a 10-under-par 62, the lowest round of the tournament. Brown played his closing nine holes in 8-under-par 29, highlighted by an eagle at the 15th and three consecutive birdies to finish, joining Alexandre at 18-under-par.

Alexandre, who began the day two shots behind Farrelly, signed for a 4-under-par 68 after his challenge was halted by a double bogey at the 13th.

The Staysure Legends Tour now heads to Portugal for the Portugal Legends Championship at Pinheirinho Golf Course from 30 October to 1 November, as the Road to Cambodia enters its final stretch.
