Denmark’s Jeff Winther delighted home fans by securing a sensational three-shot victory after a roller coaster final day of the Danish Golf Championship.
The 38-year-old carded a five-under-par final round 67 at Great Northern Golf Club to reach 15 under and claim his second DP World Tour title, following a chaotic Sunday where eight players had at least a share of the lead.
Winther entered the fourth round four shots off the lead, but the Dane boosted his chances with birdies at the fourth and fifth before dropping shots at the sixth and eighth to seemingly derail his title bid.
But a brace of birdies from the ninth saw him surge back into contention before rejoining the lead at 13 under with a gain at the 13th.
Rasmus Højgaard, who began the day five shots adrift, had mixed three birdies and three bogeys on his first 12 holes before a brilliant burst to finish his round. He birdied the 15th and 16th before chipping in for eagle at the penultimate hole to sit alongside compatriot Winther at 13 under.
SPECTACULAR EAGLE
Winther replied with a spectacular eagle two of his own on the 16th to jump to 15 under, before parring his way home to secure his first victory since the 2021 Mallorca Open.
He becomes the second Danish winner of this event following Rasmus Højgaard’s victory in 2023 at HimmerLand.
Højgaard bogeyed the last to finish on 12 under alongside Filippo Celli, Oliver Lindell, Matthew Jordan and Chinese teenager Yanhan Zhou.
Denmark’s Marcus Helligkilde and overnight leader Romain Langasque were one shot-back at 11 under.
