Cumberwell Park’s Laurie Canter won the Qualifying School First Stage Section D event held at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire.
The Bath-based player fired rounds of 71, 68, 66 and 71 to reach 14 under par and lead 27 qualifiers into the Second Stage. Surrey’s Zane Scotland and Swede Anton Karlsson tieing for second place on 11 under, with 21-year-old Jordan Smith from Hampshire taking fourth spot on eight under.
Among other successful players included Brocket Hall’s Tomasz Anderson (pictured right) and Hendon’s Luke Goddard, while Craig Lawrie, eldest son of former Open Champion Paul Lawrie, finished in a tie for 18th place to also move through to the second stage of qualifying, which takes place at various venues in Spain from November 6-9.
