The country’s first resort-based FootGolf course has opened at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire. The custom-built nine-hole FootGolf course is adjacent to the resort’s championship Bainbridge Course, and winds through a heavily-wooded area.
Open seven days a week, the FootGolf course is costs £7.50 for nine holes (£4 for u16s). As it has been purpose-built for FootGolf in an area not previously used for golf, Heythrop Park does not suffer the problems faced at many facilities which have to combine their FootGolf offering with normal traffic on an existing golf course.
“We’re proud to be the first golf resort to offer FootGolf in the UK,” said Tim Good, Heythrop Park’s Golf, Leisure and Spa Director. “With the Manor House and the Bainbridge Course close by, plus stunning views all around, I think we are certainly one of the grandest settings for FootGolf. We have over 300 hotel rooms on site, and we anticipate that many of our residential guests will enjoy FootGolf as a relaxing and fun additional attraction to their stay, along with our traditional golf, spa and leisure facilities.”
The course was co-designed by UK FootGolf’s Head of Development, Gareth May, and the sport’s 2014 Order Of Merit Champion, Ben Clarke. “Heythrop Park has enabled us to pass another landmark,” said May. “It is also only the second golf club in Oxfordshire to offer FootGolf and we are sure that it will be very popular here. It is a technical course which requires a degree of FootGolf skill – although it will be great fun for all standards of player. There are some interesting dog-legs, and it requires more precision than power.”
