The e-Open tournament is already underway for 2021. If you are thinking about participating in this year’s competition, then here’s everything you need to know:
Following on from the massive success of the e-Open championship in 2020, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A for short) has announced that they will be holding another tournament in 2021. Once again, this competition will be presented by MasterCard and supported by TopGolf.
For those that aren’t aware, the e-Open is an innovative golf tournament that takes place on a global online platform. In 2020, it attracted gamers and golfers from across the world. Now, as a countdown event before the 150th open season begins, the e-Open is being hosted again. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, then you should keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the e-Open for 2021.
When Is It Taking Place?
The qualifying rounds for the e-Open tournament have already begun. They started on July 12th and will continue until August 15th. From here, a series of knockout rounds will occur. These are going to run from the 17th of August to the 19th of August. The thrilling final showdown will be on August 20th, so make sure to jot this date down in your calendar! The 149th Open Championship might already be over – having run from Thursday, July 15th to Sunday, July 18th – but the e-Open is only just getting started! So, draw on inspiration from your favourite golfers and take on the virtual challenge.
Where Is It Taking Place?
Interesting question. The e-Open tournament is being hosted online by R&A. This is very similar to what GGPoker.co.uk did last year for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2020. If golfers and gamers want to participate in the e-Open tournament, then they will need to purchase an entry ticket and then attend the competition in cyber space. This digital event is powered by the WGT by TopGolf platform. Essentially, this is a free online multiplayer golf game that is rendered with photorealistic graphics. So, you can immerse yourself in the golfing experience, just like you would in real life! More than 28 million people have played the WGT by TopGolf game before.
Who Is Allowed to Enter?
Here’s the best bit: the e-Open tournament can be entered by players of all skill levels. It doesn’t matter whether you are a beginner golfer or intermediate player or professional gamer. Everybody has a chance to participate in the 2021 e-Open. Avid gamers and golfers will be pleased to know that there isn’t a limit to the number of contestants, either. You’ll have a fair shot to advance through the tournament, as you go through each elimination stage. To give a sense of scale, the e-Open 2020 competition had 145,000 entries last year from players across the world. So, participants can look forward to virtual golfing matches that are both challenging and enjoyable.
Is It the Same as Playing in Real Life?
Obviously, playing in the e-Open tournament is different to golfing in real life. It is classified as an e-sport, which means it is more like a video game than an actual match of golf. However, both versions of the Open Championship are equally entertaining. The e-Open tournament has been created with photorealistic graphics, from the scenery to the players, whilst the game mechanics have drawn on the physics from actual golfing. For example, gamers need to consider things like wind speed before shooting their shot. The golf courses also look beautiful with their computer-generated animations. Enjoy digitally playing on world-famous golf courses like Wolf Creek and Pebble Beach.
That’s pretty much everything you need to know about the e-Open tournament. So, are you going to participate?
